Food Grade Milk Storage Silo: Role, Utility, and Benefits for Dairy Industry

Storage silos are needed in many industries to facilitate the storage of commodities safely for a long time. Perishable commodities like milk pose certain challenges. They have to be stored at a desired temperature to ensure that they remain nutritious and fresh. The silos meant for milk is designed to ensure the quality.

What is a food-grade milk storage silo?

Milk storage silos are made using 304 stainless steel. The exterior wall is 11 gauge thick and has a finished surface, while the exterior wall is 14 gauge thick with a 2B finish. A dimple plate made of 304 stainless steel is installed on the lower sidewall and the bottom of the tank. This dimple plate serves as a surface for transferring heat. The silo is insulated with 2 inches of polyurethane insulation for maintaining a consistent temperature inside the tank.

What are its features?

The food-grade milk stainless storage silo is equipped with a bottom sweep system fitted with a propeller agitator blade positioned at the halfway mark. There is an oval 17” x 20” manway with a stainless steel grab bar. A removable clean-in-place device, which comprises a manifold assembly with spray balls, is located on the top. It is also equipped with a 460V, 60 Hertz, 3-phase agitating motor.

Role of a food-grade milk storage silo

This equipment is used to store milk at a desired temperature for a long period. The polyurethane insulation helps in maintaining a uniform temperature inside the tank. As they are made of best-grade stainless steel with horizontal and vertical designs, they are suitable for indoor as well as outdoor installation. The high-density insulation of the storage tank helps keep the milk fresh and nutritious for a longer duration. The agitator in the tank helps to distribute the milk solids evenly. This equipment is also required to prevent the formation of cream at the top.

What are its benefits for the dairy industry?

It can help a dairy unit prevent the contamination of milk. This is possible owing to the food-grade stainless steel used in the tank. Since it is corrosion-resistant, it can withstand any weather.

Conclusion

A stainless steel storage tank with insulation will be required to keep the milk fresh and uncontaminated for a long duration. The storage tanks used in the dairy industry are constructed with food-grade steel to prevent any contamination of the milk.
